Year 8 Epping Forest Service Project

All pupils from 8B and 8R were very excited and committed to helping out the local community by preserving the nearby Epping Forest. They started the day by meeting up with Alison Tapply, the Epping Forest Keeper for the City of London Corporation, and her team of forest supervisors, at The View in Chingford. Alison divided the cohort in three groups, and assigned a forest guard to each group. Every pupil had the chance to take part in different activities– from picking up litter, trimming and pruning bushes with shears and cutting small tree branches with hacksaws to make the perfect habitat for rare songbirds, all under the meticulous supervision of Alison’s team. The pupils worked extremely well collaboratively, and were so enthusiastic they could not stop asking questions to the Epping Forest team.

Thank you to Alison and the Epping Forest team for organising this valuable learning and volunteering opportunity for our Year 8 PSHE community service!

“On Wednesday 14 we as Year 8 went to Epping Forest and we helped our local environment and community by picking up litter and rubbish. Also, we helped with clearing the plains and even cutting down some of the branches of the trees. We did this as our PSHE community service project for our local area. Thank you, Miss Bonella and Miss Butler for creating this helpful experience”. William Chisholm, 8B
