Entrance Exam details

Entrance Examinations
The main Entrance Examinations for entry into the Seniors at Year 7 are held in the first half of the Spring Term, with results posted to families in the February half term break.  An additional Entrance Examination is usually held in March for those families who may still be looking for a place for their son or daughter in the Seniors.  The next date for entrance exams is Wednesday 1 February 2012.

Open Evening/Morning
Attending an Open Evening or Morning is an excellent way to find out more about Normanhurst School.  You will be given a guided tour by some of our pupils and will be able to see the School in action.  You will have the opportunity to see the displays around the School, lessons taking place and you will be able to meet some of the staff who would be teaching your son or daughter.

Entry into Normanhurst School
The main points of entry for boys and girls into Normanhurst School are in the Nursery (2½-5), Juniors (6-10) and Year 7 at the start of the academic year in September.  However, occasional vacancies occur in other year groups and we welcome applications for entry into the Juniors and Seniors at other times if places are available.

Prospective parents are always welcome to contact the Admissions Registrar to check the availability of places and to register interest.  You will then be invited to visit the School for a guided tour and to discuss your child's possible entry with the Headmistress.

Entry into the Nursery
Children are usually admitted from the age of 2½. There is a three-term entry system, with the majority of children starting in the Autumn Term as long as they are dry.

Children start with a minimum of three sessions and have the opportunity to increase their time with us over the course of the academic year. They are expected to attend full time mornings and afternoons by the Summer Term before they start in Reception.

Entry into the Juniors
Entry into the Juniors from Year 1 is by interview and classroom observation. From Year 3 there is also a short Entrance Assessment that is completed within the classroom setting.

Entry into the Seniors
For entry into Year 7 and beyond, prospective pupils are required to sit an Entrance Examination followed by an interview. Candidates will be tested in English, Maths and Non-Verbal Reasoning. The School is looking for pupils who show potential as well as those who are academically able. We are looking for well-rounded children and those who also show an interest in Music, Art, Drama or Sport.

Scholarships
A small number of part scholarships may be awarded as a result of the examination and interview process in Year 7.  Each is worth up to a maximum of 25% fees at the discretion of the Headmistress and School Principal and is subject to an annual review.  Scholarships awarded may be for academic achievement or a particular talent in sport, music or the creative arts.

Special Considerations
If your child has any particular learning difficulty or disability of which we should be made aware, please let us know prior to the examination date and we will endeavour to make any reasonable provisions
