A Visit to The Spinney for National Book Day

On Wednesday 1 May, Mrs Gladwell and a group of Year 2 children were lucky enough to be invited to visit The Spinney to enjoy National Book Day.  They got to dress up as their favourite story character and take along a favourite book.

The children were very excited to read to the residents, who were very much looking forward to our visit.  Each of the children did a wonderful job and many of the residents complimented them on their super reading skills.

The residents of The Spinney had voted Alice in Wonderland as their favourite story, so before leaving we were treated to a story telling session by one of the residents and a jam tart made by the Queens of Hearts herself!

Here is what Aurora and Aidan thought about our visit.

Aurora: “I really enjoyed it because I like reading to old people and spending time with them. I liked getting to dress up too!”

Aidan: “I think it’s interesting to find out other people’s ideas about books.  I liked reading to the lady I met.”

We even made it into the local paper! CLICK HERE to read it.
