Year 10 Investigate Solar Cells

The year 10 students have been learning about renewable and non-renewable energy sources and exploring the possibility of only using renewable electricity sources to meet global electricity requirements. They have also been learning about ‘embodied energy’ or the energy that is used to make technological devices, mobile phones in particular.

Two of the memorable activities they very successfully completed were investigating how solar cells work and writing an email to a friend convincing them that buying a new version of a mobile phone to replace a device that is working fine is probably not the most environmentally friendly thing to do.
