Year 5 Get To Try Ancient Mayan Food!

Continuing with their Ancient Mayan learning in History, the Year 5’s have learnt about food from this time period. They learnt all about the kinds of food that the Mayan’s would have eaten and how they would cook their food. They found out they used the old age method of ‘Hunting and Gathering’ for their main food source but they also had a God that linked to their food known as the Maize God. The Mayan’s believed that Maize/Corn had magical powers and could heal people. They made most of their food out of corn and the Year 5’s enjoyed trying some traditional Mayan snacks in their lesson including corn chips and tortillas with an avocado dip. The Year 5’s are going home to try out a traditional Mayan Hot Chocolate recipe that includes chili powder – they are very brave!
