Kindergarten Class Caterpillars Have Arrived!

The children in Kindergarten are finding out about the different minibeasts.  They have enjoyed lots of activities and learning, including the arrival of some caterpillars which they are observing every day. When they are ready, which could be two to three weeks, they plan to take the butterflies on one of their forest walks to release them.

Lower Kindergarten have been counting using the ladybirds, and Upper Kindergarten had an art afternoon creating a large hand painting picture of a pond, inspired by Monet’s ‘Water Lilies’. Everyone enjoyed finding out about bees, making their own finger puppets, and printing hexagon-shaped honeycomb. The story of the week is ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. The children are learning the days of the week, the life cycle of the butterfly, and trying the different fruits as a healthy snack. In the garden area, they have been role-playing ‘The Ugly Bug Ball’ where they have enjoyed dressing up and dancing!
